Another milestone anniversary is upon the Madonna universe as Blond Ambition, her most iconic tour, marks its 25th year today. This comes just days after the 30th anniversary of The Virgin Tour, her very first tour ever.
Blond Ambition, one of the greatest concert tours. not only of Madonna‘s career, but of all time, premiered in the city of Chiba in Japan on April 13, 1990 and went on to play 57 record-breaking dates across Japan, North America and Europe.
Blond Ambition saw Madonna at her highest peak as a pop music and cultural icon. Despite criticisms from religious groups (including The Vatican) for the controversial themes of religion and sexuality that the show tackled, it managed to rise above the protests and impressed even Madonna’s most ardent critics and proved to be a success artistically and commercially.
With a combination of music, theater, fashion and shock of the most aesthetic proportions, Blond Ambition broke new grounds in the realm of live music presentation and continues to influence all other musical performers that followed, across all genres, in the years since. None more than its very own star who still aims to raise the performance bar that Blond Ambition had already taken to unprecedented heights.
Happy Silver Anniversary, Blond Ambition!
Truth or Dare (a.k.a. In Bed With Madonna), released in 1991, is the critically-acclaimed documentary that chronicled Madonna‘s life and times during the Blond Ambition tour and her relationships with her dancers, her crew, her then-lover Warren Beatty and her family. Its no-holds barred, all-access approach unknowingly provided the template to the now-so-widely popular genre of ‘reality television’.
