Today marks another MADONNA milestone anniversary as we celebrate 30 Years since the release of Live To Tell, the lead single off True Blue and the theme song to her then-husband Sean Penn‘s movie At Close Range.

The song showcased a new level of maturity in Madonna‘s vocals and songwriting (she co-wrote it with Patrick Leonard) and is considered to be one of her best ballads ever. It went on to become her 3rd number one single in the Billboard chart.

Madonna has performed the song live on 3 of her world tours beginning with Who’s That Girl Tour in 1987, Blond Ambition Tour in 1990 and for the Confessions Tour in 2006. The latter sparked controversy for what was perceived as a blasphemous performance when she sang the song while mounted on a mirrored crucifix with a ‘crown of thorns’on her head.

Can you believe it’s been 30 years?

How does Live To Tell rank among her many ballads?
